Rifleman's Book Cover (1)

Set in northern France between June and August 1944, this graphic novel project follows rifleman, Corporal Tom McKenzie and the "Mad Four" Fourth Carrier Platoon of the Queen's Own Rifles as they push through Normandy in the slow, grueling Allied campaign to liberate France.

Drawing upon firsthand accounts, diaries, and letters from actual Canadian infantrymen, A Rifleman's Journal shows how the ingrained work ethic and resourcefulness of NCO's, forged in the diverse pre-war landscapes of Canada’s farmland and rural communities, dictated their actions in the critical micro-environments where they fought.

At its core, it is a human story that resonates beyond the battlefield. By exploring the war from this granular perspective, becomes less about tactics and objectives, and more about individual initiative and dogged stubbornness that exemplify Canadian identity.
